Wild Earth African Safari Review

Have you ever wanted to go on a safari, but don’t want to take the risk or spend the money? Explore the wild and capture its natural beauty on film in Wild Earth: African Safari, without leaving the comfort of your home. You are a photo journalist sent on an adventure through Africa’s Serengeti National Park to photograph and chronicle 30 different exotic animals, from elephants and hyenas to rhinos. Wander the African territory and take pictures in order to put together “informative magazine-quality pictorials.” From running with herds of zebra to following hunting lions and scavenging vultures, you can risk it all to capture amazing pictures. Nabbing the best photo will have to be balanced against drawing too close to the animals.

safari
This game is very mellow because there isn’t a time limit or parameters set. You can just wander around the safari if you want (the younger kids do that and are happy) or follow the actual game and photograph the animals (which is what I tried to do).

I think it is entertaining for about an hour. At that point I am a little dizzy. The character’s camera moves and rotates so well that I need to learn more control to balance things out.

Also my own error, but I don’t understand the map graphic that is supposed to guide you (bottom right side). The instructions just said to use it but not how. I have a feeling that everybody else knows how to use it but me. :)

All in all, very cute, colorful, educational, and non-violent. It’s nice to have a game where your goal isn’t to hunt or shoot the animals.

The game helps the user feel incorporated into “the circle of life” on the safari.

It was fun, but then frustrating
I got this game because I am a fan of Endless Ocean, I hoped it would be like that. When I put the game on and started playing it was really fun. There’s action and suspense but it’s also good for smaller children. But when I finished the first level, a box came up saying I failed the mission and I clicked OK thinking it would save my photos and let me do the level over again. It didn’t! Basically if you don’t get all the pictures taken, you have to start all over again. So I thought I would do it later and play some of the mini games, it wouldn’t let me! So again, I have to complete a level to get a mini game. So at this rate, it’ll take me a wile to finish one level and get a mini game. Overall, I give this game 4 stars.

Not quite a complete game
I picked up this game expecting a modern Pokemon Snap. Unfortunately, what I got was something less. It’s not bad by any means but I did have a few complaints to expand upon other reviews.

1: The missions might as well run on a track. Sure it seems open and apt for exploration, but you will quickly learn that other than the event and creatures the tour guides point out, there is little to see.

2: There’s little to no surprise. The list pops up anytime you enter a new area telling you exactly what you’re looking for, ruining any element of the wild or unpredictable.

3: At the end of each mission it will judge you by how many pictures out of the total possible you got. No points for framing or close ups. Why not import something similar to Dead Rising’s photo system? Even measuring elements of action or comedy would be a vast improvement to nothing.

4: The game will talk down to you if you know anything about animals. This one is best left to the kids who are still learning.

All in all, I would buy this for quite a few kids I know because of the educational and nonviolent elements but I should have tried it before I bought it for myself.

very educational
This game isn’t like a game. You take pictures of animals and you learn all kinds of facts about them. It is very educational.

We Cheer Review

Putting players at the center of a nationwide cheerleading competition, We Cheer utilizes two Wii Remotes as virtual pom-poms to create an authentic cheerleading experience. Players must move the wireless Wii Remotes as directed by the on-screen indicators to choreographed routines, utilizing a full range of arm and body movements such as spins and twists. As each routine is successfully performed, the player will be able to recruit new team members to their squad, adding new cheerleading abilities and choreographed routines. The first cheerleading videogame to offer licensed music, We Cheer features 30 smash-hit master recordings for players to perform to, including tracks from Hilary Duff, Aly & AJ, The Plain White T’s and Natasha Bedingfield. Letting friends and family participate in the cheerleading fun, We Cheer features cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes for up to four players to determine who deserves to stand at the top of the pyramid. The game also features a workout mode that lets players keep track of approximately how many calories they have burned while cheering. Each character in the game is fully customizable, with a variety of uniforms, shoes and accessories to choose from for added personalization.

Don’t just sit there, get up and cheer!
This is a game for kids who dream of being a cheerleader or for “old kids” who didn’t make the final cut for cheerleader and never got over it. It’s one to add to the “Get up off the couch and move” list of Wii games and it’s a way to get some very good exercise while having some fun.

I just got this today and have been playing with it for the last couple of hours. That’s as long as I could play because by arms and shoulders are ready to fall off! This game really gives your arms a great workout and once I get better at it and can follow along with the foot movements it should be an all around great exercise game. (Walking and chewing gum at the same time can be challenging) There is also a “Work out” section that’s has a choice of quick or extended exercise routines which involves a lot of footwork as well as the arms. That, BTW is a good way to practice getting the cheer moves down.

There’s a Campaign Mode where you can compete with another person for team captain or Party Mode where you can play with up to 4 people and have your own squad. I probably won’t be playing in those modes since most of my friends would think this 50-something woman had totally lost it if I asked them to come join my Wii cheerleading squad. (Why didn’t they name the game “Wii Cheer”?

I like the music and the cheerleader characters are all bubbly and enthusiastic (perky?) which is good motivation to get moving. They’re also chatty with recommendations and small talk, which you can hit the A&B buttons to skip if it gets old after a while.

I barely made it past failing after a couple of hours and that was on the easy songs. It’s fun even when you don’t hit every beat. I did improve by doing the routines over and over. I’ve found that watching the cheerleaders is the best way to stay on the beat. A good sense of rhythm helps. It seems to have enough different songs to keep it interesting and challenging.

I’m glad I bought it. It’s big, big fun and anything that keeps me exercising for over 2 hours is a good thing.

he’s getting there
secret rings is a nice wii game. the controls aren’t the best but they’re at least reliable 90% of the time you use the. the games fun, but it’s story structure is not the best out there because they’re using still frames to represent a book style theme. the voice acting is defenatly not one of sonic’s best. in the adventure mode, you unlock ablilities to help sonic. you can also unlock up to 40 mini games, though they’re mostly boring but some are ok. at least sega thinking outside the normal stuff. this is an good sonic game, but it defenatly needs some work. rent it first.

I think it’s fun
I’m not a gamer at all so the help that this game gives me is much appreciated. Like I don’t have to run and get every single ring because it will let me finish the level anyway, and it kind of steers me in the right direction so I get all that I need. Maybe it’s best for people like me who have only ever owned an Atari (in 1983 when I was 4) and now a Wii (or for people who are younger than 5). :) I like it. I play it pretty often and pat myself on the back when I get through a tough level.

Sonic’s speed fails to impress
One day, long ago, in a world of 16 bit wonder, Sonic meant fun, blistering speed. Now it just seems to mean big fat money signs for the publisher (which unfortunately doesn’t benefit us gamers). It comes with the prerequisite party games in addition to the single player and training mode.

The multiplayer games were actually decent, but hard to justify purchase when the main game is so frustrating. The real problems start with the training mode. Through poor design, the object of each training level is given briefly, leading to unnecessary fumbling to figure out what should be extremely simple. To make matters worse, there is even a training level that can not be completed. I know, because out of sheer stupid determination, I tried again and again and again. Whatever it was that needed to be accomplished was lost on me. Giving up on the training mode, I jumped heartily into the game, discovering that this game ran on a rail. A very narrow one at that. Unfortunately for looks, the designers opted to make it look like there was no rail that you were confined to so there are countless times that you will veer one way or the other to avoid the enemy only to find that you are shoved right back into the way of the baddy to lose all of your hard earned rings. Then you must build up speed again which in the 2D version of Sonic was not nearly as aggravating as it is in this version. Which means one of the main allures of Sonic is lost, as you are constantly tripped up by baddies and forced to regain your speed and rings at a maddingly slow pace.

I put up with all of this, but I think I lost it when I found out that you have to replay a level over and over with different missions before you can advance to another level, without any real explanation as to what needs to be done. Meaning the little feeling of triumph you had at finishing the level melts as you realize you will have to do it again, and again and again.

Mediocre sonic game.
I dont own a wii or this game but I play it at my aunts house when I go, when i first played it was fun then I had to do the same level over, and over, and over, and over, and over again, that just got annoying,

If I ever get a wii I wouldnt buy it, its way too repetitive if you play it everyone in awhile its fun but to own it and play the same level over and over, etc to unlock the next level it isnt fun

i know the mario games have that(super mario 64, sunshine, galaxy) but its different, ,ario games were somewha like that it works better with mario and its not as repetitive, so I wouldnt recoment buying the game maybe just maybe renting.

Not a DESERVING Sonic Title
This game is horrid. The controls are unresoonsive. The story plain sucks. Sonic turned weird (He says “hell” to make him “cool.”) Eggman isn’t the enemy, and the party games are unresponsive back. Buy Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Gamecube instead. It’s way more fun.

great game, a few flaws
A lot of fun, and the Wii really needed a driving game like this. A nice balance of arcade and simulation. Great graphics (for the Wii). I’ve played most PC and Playstation driving games, and this game is very, very good.

Three demerits prevent me from giving it 5 stars: no 2-player mode, truly awful controls for manual shifting (why can’t it use the ‘+’ button???? seems blindingly obvious to me), and my biggest gripe: it takes far too long to unlock anything. Four 4-lap races in arcade mode (the minimum required to unlock a car or track) takes over half an hour. I paid my money and I want my cars and tracks, but I know I will never have the time to scratch the surface of what is available. Hopefully someone will post some cheats online somewhere, because i REALLY want my Ferraris.

Single Player only
This is a great game and fun but the information is misleading. It does not have a versus mode and it does not do split screen. The back of the box says it is a one player game not two. This was very disappointing.

The graphics are good for the Wii. The game is fun and you have some nice ways of customizing the look of your car(s). The game play does not seem to be extremely simple but not extremely difficult either so I think it can be enjoyable for a wide range or people.

The only sim racing title for Wii (as of Sept. 2008)
If you want something more realistic than Mario Kart, then this game is for you. I was pleasantly surprised by the physics engine of this game. Having played Grand Prix titles on PC as well as GTR/GTR 2, I had high expectations for the Ferrari game and it did not disappoint. The game further offers a nice variety of game modes. You will need to unlock most of the content and I personally liked the challenge. The AI is rather tough. The Homestead race was difficult even on the Beginner level of difficulty (1 of the 4 Arcade races). Beating lap records so far has been a challenge as well. My best Monza (first race track in the game) time is 1:53 which is 2 seconds slower than the lap record. Overall the game is a lot of fun and has a good lasting appeal. There are three reasons why I could not give the game 5 stars overall:

1) The graphics are nice given Wii standards, but you can’t help noticing crude textures. The framerate is really good; but it may drop rarely (typically when you need it most). Still, I have to admit that 8-9 years ago PC graphics were already better. I do use HDTV Component cables, by the way.

2) The manual says that the game has video options. Apparently, it does not!

3) The game support Wii motion controls (aka Mario Kart) but I found Wiimote arrows much more precise than tilting the Wiimote.

Given that this is the only solid sim racing title for Wii, I highly recommend it.

Rent first….then decide.
Wow. Excellent graphics… if you’re coming off an Atari 2600. I played this game on my 61″ 1080p dlp but everything looked blocky in the distance. Physics are good, but poor graphics and the lack of any bass (sounded like I was driving a Yugo, even with an Onkyo 705 7.1 speaker system) killed it for me. Good thing it was a blockbuster rental.

Worth the money
I bought this for a sleep over my daughter was having. The girls played it for 5 hours straight. Do go and buy a second microphone it makes it more fun. The whole thing with and extra mic is cheaper then a bounce house and you get to keep it when the party is over.

Fun… laugh and decent choices for songs
I’m a self-proclaimed-karaoke-goddess and have a lot of fun with this game. It’s fun at a party or to sit by yourself and do some crooning. The song selection has some old, some new, some slow, some fast… a fairly good list. I would have rated this a 5 if you could download some more songs. Sad.

All in all, a good time and worth the money.

Lots of fun but some serious omissions
I played Karaoke Revolution on the PS2 a lot (I love doing karaoke) and enjoyed it. But, I have a Wii, so I was excited when Karaoke Revolution came out for the Wii.

The simplest way to describe Karaoke Revolution is “Match the pitch and timing of the song to score points.” When you choose a player, and choose a song, the song scrolls across the bottom of the screen. Above the song’s lyrics, the game shows a simplified music staff with empty note tubes. These tubes indicate a pitch for the phrase.

You fill the note tubes by singing the correct pitch at the correct time into the microphone (you may transpose the song up or down an octave if necessary). After a few phrases, the game shows a mark on the display—and the more notes you hit correctly, the higher you score.

If you enjoy karaoke, this game is a lot of fun. The game even has what it calls “True Duets”, where 2 people (2 microphones needed). With True Duets, two people each sing a part.

For a greater challenge, there are 4 difficulty levels. The higher the difficulty level, the more notes you need to get right in a measure, and the more accurately you need to hit each pitch.

To keep things fresh, there are several modes of play, ranging from “Quick play” (just pick a song and go), to various lengths of “American Idol” contests. There are also several ways 2 (or more) players can be involved, such as head-to-head battle, both take part in an American Idol contest or a knock out.

If you wondered “How would I do on American Idol?” this game partially fulfills that fantasy—the 3 famous judges are there and judge you based on how well you do.

So what is the down side with the game?

First of all, there are a very small number of pre-set characters (all the same body type) you can use. You can clothe them slightly differently, but this is totally unlike the PS2 version, where you can choose an exact body type and save the unique character. On the PS2, this allows two people to start with the same face, but customize it differently.

In addition, if you do change how the character is clothed, the picture you see doesn’t change. This makes it difficult to find the character you created.

You can unlock more characters, but it doesn’t significantly add to the list.

Beyond this, there are no downloadable songs for the Wii version—a feature that was promised but not to date delivered. Even if you love doing karaoke, you’ll eventually get sick of doing the same 40 songs over and over again.

Finally, the high score list doesn’t keep track of the different difficulty levels separately. This makes the high score useless, because a score of 100000 (Perfect) of Easy will overwrite a score of 90000 on Expert.

If Komani addressed these shortcomings in their next Karaoke Revolution title, I think it would be a best seller for the Wii: add download capability, add much more flexibility to player models, make the high scores separate for each difficulty level.

However, the game is still a lot of fun (if you love karaoke), but it feels cheap and rushed because of where Konami cut corners—player models being the worst offender.
